St Peter's Basilica
The minor basilica of San Pedro stands in the square of the same name, in the San Pedro quarter. The site may have held the Christian church of the Three Saints, which kept the relics of the Córdoban martyrs Genaro, Marcial and Fausto, and later a neighbourhood mosque; a Mozarabic cemetery was found beneath the nave. After the conquest by Ferdinand III the present church was raised, between the late 13th and early 14th centuries, with three Gothic naves, a polygonal apse and two semicircular apsidioles. Two medieval doorways and part of the tower are Mudéjar. Hernán Ruiz II designed the main façade and the sacristy in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, keeping the original rose window. Inside, the highlights are the high altarpiece by Félix Morales Negrete, from 1732, the Baroque Chapel of the Holy Martyrs and a St Peter by Juan de Valdés Leal in one of the apses. It has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 1985 and a minor basilica since 2006.
