Zurich Zoo
Zurich Zoo, opened in 1929, occupies an area on the slope of the Zürichberg, in the Fluntern district. The visit is organised around distinct ecosystems — Eurasia, South America and Africa/Madagascar — with enclosures that allow the animals to withdraw to hidden areas. Among the highlights are the daily penguin walk, held after midday when the temperature is below 10 °C, and the Masoala Hall, a large dome recreating the tropical rainforest. The Asian elephant exhibit can also be seen. The zoo has a recognised role in breeding Galápagos tortoises and in the discovery of Goodman's mouse lemur. The official website details habitats such as the Masoala rainforest, the Lewa savannah, the Kaeng Krachan elephant park and the Panthera research station, as well as animal presentations and giraffe feeding.
