Puerta del Sol
CultureVisit: ~15 minFree
Medieval gate into Toledo's walled enclosure, built in the last quarter of the 14th century in Mudéjar style with a strong Nasrid influence. On its outer façade, a relief with the figure of a sun, among others, gives it its name. Access is through a horseshoe arch sheltered by a pointed horseshoe arch, and the whole combines stone, ashlar and rubble masonry with battlements, merlons and a brick frieze decorated with interlaced lobed arches. Above the arch, a medallion depicts the ordination of Saint Ildephonsus, patron saint of Toledo, receiving his chasuble beneath the sun and moon.
