Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art
The MACA occupies the Casa de la Asegurada, a Baroque building from 1685 that is the oldest civil building in Alicante, extended with a contemporary project opened in 2011, in Plaza de Santa María in the old town. Inside you can explore several permanent collections: the 20th-Century Art Collection, with 177 works by 114 international artists; the collection devoted to Eusebio Sempere, with hundreds of pieces that rotate periodically; the Juana Francés Collection, bequeathed by the Alicante artist; and the Fundación Mediterráneo Collection. The museum also programmes temporary exhibitions, lectures and workshops, and has a library and a documentation centre specialising in contemporary art.
