Machichaco Museum
Located inside Santander's Maritime Station, this museum gathers graphic and documentary material on the explosion of the ship Cabo Machichaco in 1893. Visitors can see the Explosion Diorama and the Magic Box, two pieces that are always on display, along with photographs, paintings, original documents from the period and scale replicas such as the ship's bow or a box of dynamite. The exhibition is renewed every three or six months and includes objects donated by families, such as hull rivets, the mayor Fernando Lavín Casalis's batons of office, a sabre recovered by a diver and the crew's spoons. Admission is free.
