Port of Santander

LeisureVisit: ~60 minFree

Santander's port occupies the western shore of the bay and combines historic quays with modern facilities. On the city front, the Calderón quay, about 270 metres long, runs from the Stone Crane to the Club Marítimo and keeps the old crane as a monument to the port's tradition. In Puertochico, the Molnedo dock, designed in the 19th century for the fishing fleet, has operated as a marina since the 1940s. The Gamazo dock, a dry dock from 1885 that was in service until 1989, is now part of Gamazo Park, next to the Cantabrian Maritime Museum. The port handles freight, car and passenger traffic, with regular ferries to Plymouth and Portsmouth operated by Brittany Ferries, and receives cruise ships at the Maritime Station on the Almirante quay.
