Postiguet Beach
NatureVisit: ~150 minFree
Urban beach of golden sand and calm waters in the centre of Alicante, at the foot of Santa Bárbara Castle. A palm-lined promenade, the Paseo de Gómiz, runs alongside it, and from the beach you can see the rocky outline of Mount Benacantil known as the Moor's Face. Its name refers to the "Postigo" gate of the old city wall, and in the early 20th century it was known as "Madrid beach" because of travellers arriving by train. It is an emblematic spot for people from Alicante, appearing in popular songs, and its eastern end, Cocó beach, is a launch point for fireworks after the Hogueras de San Juan.
