Bikini Beach
Urban beach of fine sand in the south-east of the Magdalena peninsula in Santander, sheltered within the bay with very little swell. It is about 250 metres long and 30 wide on average, although at high tide the eastern part disappears and at low tide numerous rocks emerge. A stone and concrete breakwater from the late 1960s, known as "the wall", partly divides the shore and extends about 200 metres into the sea to the south, with arches that let bathers through. From the sand you can see La Magdalena and Los Peligros beaches, the Reina Victoria promenade, El Puntal, Somo and the Peña Cabarga massif. Nearby are the islet of La Torre, with a sailing school, and La Horadada island, with a small lighthouse. It has lifeguards in the summer season, showers, foot-washes and bins, and is reached by steps or ramps; you cannot get to the peninsula by car.
