Segovia Cathedral
The cathedral rises at one of the highest points of Segovia, over part of the old Jewish quarter, and its tower reaches almost 90 metres. Inside, three naves with Gothic vaults reaching 30 metres high and an ambulatory with openwork-tracery stained glass create a sober, unified space, closed by a 17th-century dome. Visitors see the main chapel with its neoclassical marble and bronze altarpiece designed by Sabatini, the choir with Flamboyant Gothic stalls, the retro-choir with the silver urn of Saint Frutos and two 18th-century organs. Several side chapels preserve altarpieces and ironwork from the 16th to 18th centuries, including the Chapel of the Conception, with the series of paintings by Ignacio de Ries. The cloister gives access to the chapter house and to the rooms of painting, tapestries and liturgical ornaments and of Santa Catalina, with a collection of forty-two Castilian and Flemish works. Since 2023 the ticket also allows a visit to the Episcopal Palace.
