Plaza Mayor is a rectangular square in the centre of Segovia, dominated by the Town Hall and surrounded by the Gothic Cathedral of Santa María de la Asunción and San Frutos, the Church of San Miguel and the Juan Bravo Theatre, which stands on a granite arch. In the centre is a small bandstand where locals usually gather during festivals. Every Thursday it hosts a market dating back to the privilege granted by Henry IV, and throughout the year it is the setting for local celebrations, such as the San Juan fairs through to St Peter's Day on 29 June, with street parades, lights and fireworks.
