Alicante Archaeological Museum

The MARQ occupies the former Hospital de San Juan de Dios, a building by Juan Vidal Ramos from the 1920s declared a site of cultural interest. Inside, eight rooms cover prehistory, Iberian culture, Roman culture, the Middle Ages and modern and contemporary cultures through more than 81,000 pieces, with a display that makes heavy use of audiovisual and computer media and educational explanations. The museum also has a temporary exhibition area that has hosted shows with pieces from the British Museum, the Louvre and the Hermitage. Through its foundation it manages archaeological sites open to visitors in the province, such as Tossal de Manises (Lucentum) and the Illeta dels Banyets, and organises rock art routes.
