Santa María del Parral Monastery
An enclosed Hieronymite monastery located outside the walls of Segovia, beside the Eresma River, still inhabited by monks of the Order of St Jerome. The complex, commissioned by Henry IV in the 15th century, arranges its buildings around cloisters in Gothic, Mudéjar and Plateresque styles, with Mudéjar coffered ceilings and monastic quarters. In the church, the 16th-century Renaissance high altarpiece stands out, the work of Juan Rodríguez and sculptors from Ávila, presided over by the Virgen del Parral. Public visits are limited, so it is best to check before going.
